19 Weeks of Bad Luck

It seems as if at around this time I have a lot of bad luck. One years ago I had no serious injuries to my name, now I have 3. The first one took 4 weeks to heal it was a broken arm. The reason I call it bad luck is because I was not doing anything dangerous at the time. I broke my arm by falling off a terrace while talking to my friends. The next thing took 12 weeks to heal. I came home from school on a hot day and really wanted something refreshing to drink so I got a glass bottle of lemonade out of the fridge. I started to pour it out into a glass when it slipped out of my hand. The glass immediately shattered and at first I thought I was fine, but then I noticed that my hand was wet and realized that I had slit my wrist and it was gushing. I grabbed the nearest towel wrapped it up and got driven to the nearest hospital. That was the only thing I have ever needed surgery for. The last event took three weeks to heal. I was in bed when I jumped in my sleep and slammed my head into the corner of my bedside table. After that I had headaches for three weeks.

Christmas Cheer

I love Christmas time. At Christmas everyone is happy and ready for the new year. Every year I help pick out the tree, put up the lights and put the ornaments on the tree. We have so many ornaments, around ten for each year since I was born. This year we had so many we had to get two trees! On Christmas Eve we eat ham and dressing and sweet potato pie. It is a feast to remember.

Lost Creek

Lost creek is my neighborhood. It is great because it is riddled with creeks. Some of the creeks I build forts in. In lost creek my friends are never that far away, just a few houses.

Off Season Athletics

In athletics we do basketball drills and we lift weights. About every week we run the track. Coach Spodick is cool. Right now we do squats and bench press. Our basketball drills drill passing and screening away, long pass and free throws.

All Region Auditions

In band we are going to a contest. It is the district auditions. If you make it to district you can make it to all region and that is a high honor. In the trumpet section 56 people are trying out so I have a lot of competition. Also only twenty six make it. I hope I make it.

The all region additions are over but I did 2nd best out of all 7th grade trumpet. That’s pretty good since there are 11.

Band

I am in symphonic band. Band is one of my favorite classes because the teachers are good and it is fun getting to play a musical instrument. I play the Trumpet, which is a brass instrument that you have to buzz your lips to play. One of our concerts is tonight (10-15-13) at 6:00 pm. We will play Olympian Pursuit, Genius and Gap Creek.

Soccer

Soccer is one of the sports I play. I like soccer because you get to run, which I enjoy. I am looking forward to track but it is next semester. In soccer there are four main positions, goalie, defense, mid and forward. In the position mid you chase the ball and steal it if it is on your side of the field. There are four positions for mid, left left, left mid, right mid and right right right right. I play all of them.

A Basketball Life

by Alan R. and Andrew W.

In the heat of the game, on the court,
Near the three point line, towards the bucket,
Between the defenders, amongst the paint,
Beneath the basket, before the shot,
Accepting the pass, across the court,
Considering his options, according to the distance,
About to dunk, over the defender,
And he misses.
